Thank you for your interest in working at CMC! In our second full year of operation, we hope to build a close-knit team of 8 full-time staff while continuing to carefully navigate the precautions, regulations, and market conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re looking for like-minded individuals who are dedicated to supporting Community Montessori’s mission of providing affordable, fully-implemented Montessori education and childcare to an intentionally diverse community of families in ways that promote social and environmental responsibility. Our vision is to expand access to high-quality Montessori education to all families in Central Ohio.

 

Position availability and hiring timelines this year will depend on position, current regulations due to COVID-19, and enrollment levels. If you possess AMI training and/or experience, please apply for the position for which you believe you are most qualified. Position Descriptions

Children's House Assistant (accepting applications now for hiring timelines throughout 2021)

Assist a Children's House Guide in supporting a Montessori Children’s House community. Support the Children’s House Guide in managing and maintaining the Children's House throughout the regular school day. Take on responsibility for the Children's House and enrolled children during either the Before Care program or the After Care program. Hours for assistants assigned to Before Care will be in the 7:15 AM - 3:15 PM range while assistants assigned to After Care will be scheduled in the 10:15 AM - 6:15 PM range. All jobs will be considered full-time with benefits, however, weekly schedules across the 30 - 40 hour range will be available. Job responsibilities for all Children’s House Assistants may include: making and maintaining Montessori materials; modeling and helping children in caring for the classroom; supervising children engaged in independent and small group work; helping children prepare and serve snacks; supervising children during time outside; supporting children through lunch and nap routines; leading select small group activities; and engaging in attendance or record keeping. Please note that Children’s House Assistants will not engage in Montessori lessons, lesson planning, or other similar teaching roles. No previous experience with Montessori is required to work at Community Montessori Columbus.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A credential or Associate’s Degree in an early childhood education related field OR a Bachelor’s Degree in any field

  • Experience working with children in group settings and a desire to pursue a career in childcare or education

  • An authoritative approach to discipline where high levels of warmth and support are coupled with high expectations and consistent boundaries

  • An interest in and ability to support Community Montessori’s mission, including fully-implemented Montessori

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, stay on feet and active for large portions of each work day, and model appropriate physical activity for children, indoors and out

  • Strong communication skills including good judgement around when and what to communicate to fellow staff, children, and children’s family members

  • Ability to provide proof of or obtain full-vaccination against: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis; Measles; Mumps; Rubella; and COVID-19. (Vaccination against the first six diseases listed here is typically offered through two different shots in the US: the Tdap and MMR; full-vaccination against COVID-19 occurs two weeks after an individual's only or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.) A negative tuberculosis test may also be required.

On-call Substitute (accepting applications now for a hiring timeline of two to three weeks from application date)

Support the entire school community by being on-call to substitute for staff during scheduled and unscheduled absences. Opportunities to observe in all classrooms will be prioritized in order to make substitution more seamless. No previous experience with Montessori is required to work at Community Montessori Columbus.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Experience working with children in group settings

  • An authoritative approach to discipline where high levels of warmth and support are coupled with high expectations and consistent boundaries

  • Fluent spoken and written English skills

  • An ability to observe, remember, and implement the routines and boundaries of fellow staff members and each Children's House community at CMC

  • An interest in and ability to support Community Montessori’s mission including fully-implemented Montessori

  • Strong communication skills including good judgement around when and what to communicate to fellow staff, children, and children’s family members

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, stay on feet and active for large portions of each work day, and model appropriate physical activity for children, indoors and out

  • An ability to work with flexible start and end times each day (e.g., anywhere from 7:15 AM - 6:15 PM) would also be ideal

  • Ability to provide proof of or obtain full-vaccination against: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis; Measles; Mumps; Rubella; and COVID-19. (Vaccination against the first six diseases listed here is typically offered through two different shots in the US: the Tdap and MMR; full-vaccination against COVID-19 occurs two weeks after an individual's only or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.) A negative tuberculosis test may also be required.

Children's House Guide (accepting applications now for hiring timelines throughout the 2021-2022 School Year Session)

Lead a group of 2.5 to 6 year-old children as well as assistant staff in creating an academically and socially supportive Montessori community. Admissions at CMC are ongoing, or rolling, with the goal of creating communities of 24 children, balanced in age, gendered traits, and other needs. Each Children’s House team will be comprised of three individuals: the Guide and two Assistants. Assistants’ schedules will include Before and After Care hours and will overlap only in the middle of the school day to support lunch, outdoor time, nap and staff breaks. Full-year or school-year only employment options at Community Montessori Columbus will be based on staff interest and summer enrollment levels.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field

  • AMI Primary Diploma

  • At least three years experience working in a Montessori setting in any capacity

  • A deep sense of the value of order and consistency in the creation and maintenance of classroom schedules and the prepared environment

  • An authoritative approach to discipline where high levels of warmth and support are coupled with high expectations and consistent boundaries

  • Intellectual curiosity and an ability to model a lifelong love of learning and developing new skills

  • Commitment to the values outlined in CMC's mission

  • An ability to effectively communicate with families of students in ways that exercise discretion, respect the child, and are responsive to individual dispositions and backgrounds 

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, stay on feet and active for large portions of each work day, and model appropriate physical activity for children, indoors and out

  • Comfort and ability with cloud based record keeping, attendance, and communication platforms

  • Ability to provide proof of or obtain full-vaccination against: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis; Measles; Mumps; Rubella; and COVID-19. (Vaccination against the first six diseases listed here is typically offered through two different shots in the US: the Tdap and MMR; full-vaccination against COVID-19 occurs two weeks after an individual's only or second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.) A negative tuberculosis test may also be required.

Administrator (no positions currently available)

Support Community Montessori by taking on administrative responsibility according to experience and ability. Areas of responsibility may include: enrollment; licensing; compliance; human resources and staff management; budgeting; accounting; outreach; reception; scheduling and planning professional development and family events; fundraising; and/or grant writing. Work with the entire staff to keep CMC running smoothly. Represent CMC to the public and all active stakeholders in ways that support the school’s mission and vision. Maintain well-organized, welcoming, and efficient office and/or reception areas.

 

Administrators will work with all staff and report to the Director, helping to determine areas of individual responsibility as appropriate.

 

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any field

  • Training and experience, especially administrative, relevant to fully-implemented Montessori

  • Strong communication skills with exceptionally good judgement around when and what to communicate to fellow staff, children, children’s family members, and prospective families   

  • Adaptable digital communications, office suite, accounting, and technical/digital repair and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong ability to create and maintain temporal, physical, and digital systems of organization

  • Ability to balance the demands of a desk job with occasional physical activity like lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs  

  • An interest in and ability to support Community Montessori’s mission including fully-implemented Montessori. 

  • Experience working in an administrative capacity at an ODJFS licensed child care center, especially one participating in SUTQ and providing PFCC.

  • Ability to provide proof of or obtain full-vaccination against: Diphtheria; Tetanus; Pertussis; Measles; Mumps; Rubella; and COVID-19. More About Working at CMC and Living in Central Ohio

CMC is leasing space from Karl Road Christian Church at 5400 Karl Rd. Columbus, OH 43229. This places us at the center of the neighborhood of Forest Park, however, we attract staff and families from all over the North and East Sides of Columbus and across Central Ohio. Our school's neighborhood and the North Side of Columbus, OH generally offer a variety of benefits. The cost of living is lower than many other comparable neighborhoods in similar cities. It also offers a diversity of welcoming communities. Columbus - the 14th largest city in the country - is the heart of a fast growing metropolitan area of just over 2 million people. Our recently reinvigorated downtown is just a 10 to 15 minute drive south on I-71 from most points on the North Side. Central Ohio is also home to a well-maintained network of metro parks, several major rivers, and a growing network of bike trails.

 

We have high expectations for Community Montessori Columbus and a lot of work ahead of us to make our mission and vision a reality! We’re looking for flexible, self-starting, self-aware individuals who will bring their devotion to working with children and commitment to deepening their Montessori practice to CMC each day. In addition to punctuality and good attendance throughout the regular work week, all staff will be asked to schedule themselves annually to attend and support between 5 and 15 community and program building opportunities outside school hours.
